Troy Opens Samford Fall Round Robin

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis opened play at the Samford Fall Round Robin on Friday as the Trojans took on players from UAB in doubles play and Samford in singles play. South Alabama is the fourth team playing at the tournament.
Trang Huynh and Anja Cosovic, the nation's 50th-ranked doubles team, picked up Troy's lone doubles win with an 8-3 win over UAB's Rachel Daniell and Caroline Faught. The Blazers No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams picked up wins over Troy.
In singles play, three Trojans picked up victories over Samford, including Huynh, the nation's 107th-ranked singles player. She defeated Stepanie N'tcha in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Sanae Ohta followed a strong ITA Regional last weekend with a singles win on Friday as she knocked off Yasmeen Ebada in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Another newcomer, Linnea Skymberg, picked up Troy's third win as she defeated Lauren Caballero in three sets, 0-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The Trojans continue play at the round robin on Saturday when they take on players from South Alabama in doubles and UAB in singles.
