Troy Continues Play at ITA Regionals

AUBURN, Alabama – The Troy men's tennis team continued play on Friday at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Champions, hosted by Auburn. Gabriel Sciacca Dias and Pablo Moreno advanced to the round of 16 in the doubles draw to highlight the day for Troy.

The Trojan pair knocked off LSU's Harrison Kennedy and Simon Freund, 8-7 (6), to advance to Saturday's round of 16. The duo will take on Auburn's Lukas Ollert and Marko Krickovic at 1 p.m. on Saturday with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.

However, in singles play, Dias was forced to retire from his third round match against Ole Miss' Stefan Lindmark in the first set.

In the singles consolation draw, Giovani Samaha is still alive for the Trojans after a win over Auburn's Petar Tomic, 7-6, 6-0, on Friday. Samaha will take on Samford's Jake Faundez in Saturday's third round at 9 a.m.

Daniel Bustamante picked up Troy's only other singles win of the day on Friday. Bustamante won a first round consolation match over New Orleans Luis Albuquerque, 6-1, 6-2. Bustamante, however, fell in the second round of the consolation draw. Full results from all of Troy's matches on Friday are below.
