Cross Country Competes at Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Trojan cross country team competed at the Crimson Classic at the Harry Pritchett Running Course on Friday afternoon. The meet was a "Power of Pink" event and aimed at generating awareness for the early detection and prevention of breast cancer.

Julia Ostendorf took the best finish of the team in the women's 5k with a time of 18:56.07. Mikayla Hodges and Samantha Smith both set new personal records in Friday's race. Hodges finished in 18:57.85, while Smith completed in 19:49.36.

The women's team raced against 33 other teams including Sun Belt conference members Georgia State, South Alabama and Louisiana-Monroe.

Freshman Joe Geise and Dylan Ogburn were the top finishers of the men's team. Geise completed the 8k in 28:11.87, a new personal best, while Ogburn finished in 28:14.23. Sean Kent placed third for the Trojan men with a time of 28:28.93.

The men's team faced off against 31 other teams including conference foes Louisiana-Monroe and South Alabama.

Overall, the women's team placed 22nd with a score of 582 points. The men's team scored 735 points, finishing 25th.

The meet was a great chance for the Trojans to run against some of the best talent in the Southeast and was great preparation for the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Championships, which will be held on November 2 in Mobile, Ala. at the USS Alabama Memorial Park.
