Troy Perfect in Doubles to Open ITA Regional

AUBURN, Alabama – The Troy men's tennis team opened plat at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional, hosted by Auburn. The Trojans went perfect in doubles play and saw Gabriel Sciacca Dias advanced to the third round of the singles draw.

The day started with first round matches in the doubles draw where Troy's three doubles teams all won. Andre Baldo and William McClelland made their first appearance for Troy and knocked off New Orleans' Timo Kranz and Giacomo Adonecchi, 8-4.

Giovani Samaha and Austin Racine played together for the second straight tournament and defeated South Alabama's Tuki Jacons and Oliver Gingras, 8-3. The Trojans' top pair, of Pablo Moreno and Dias also won on Thursday, knocking off Tulane's Alex Van Cott and Ian Van Cott, 8-4.

Moreno and Dias carried the momentum over to singles play where they each won first round matches. Moreno defeated Jacksonville State's Felipe Diaz, 6-4, 6-3. Dias defeated UAB's Luiz Felipe Pinto, 6-1, 6-1.

The pair play second round matches on Thursday night, with Dias winning to advance to Friday's third round. The junior beat UL Lafayette's Coleman Wahlborg, 6-1, 6-4. Moreno lost a tight three-set match against his second round opponent, Joseph Van Dooren of Auburn, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

Dias will face Ole Miss' Stefan Lindmark in Friday's third round at 11:00 a.m. All three doubles pairs will play second round matches at 8:30 a.m. on Friday. Baldo and McClelland will play UL Lafayette's Jake Wynan and Jarred Wynan. Moreno and Dias will paly LSU's Harrison Kennedy and Simon Freund. Samaha and Racine will play LSU's Boris Arias and Jordan Daigle.
