TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team saw one singles player and one doubles team advance at the UTSA/ITA Southern Regional Championship, host by Alabama, on Friday.
True freshman Sanae Ohta stole the show for the Trojans with two wins in the main singles draw. In her collegiate debut, Ohta defeated Jackson State's Rebekah Adersumi in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. She then made the quick turnaround and defeated Samford's Stephanie N'Tcha, 6-1, retired.
Ohta will face Alabama's Emily Zabor in Saturday's third round with a spot in the round of 16 on the line.
The Tokyo native also played well in doubles play as she and partner Trang Huynh defeated Louisiana Tech's Alexandra Starkova and Jazmin Britos in the second round, 8-7 (5).
Huynh lost her first match in the singles draw, falling to Ole Miss' Marija Milutinovic in the second round in three sets, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5. Troy also had two players fall in the first round of the singles B draw. Full results are below.
