Trojans Ready to Begin 2014 Season at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 2014 track and field season gets underway on Friday at the UAB Blazer Invitational. The Trojans bring in a decorated group of newcomers to join a solid team of returners in their quest for the Sun Belt Championship.
"We are excited and anxious at the same time to open the season," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "We are excited to get on the Birmingham venue since it will host our Sun Belt Championships for the first time in February."
The Trojans will bring 27 athletes to the season-opening meet, including 16 freshmen. The meet gets underway at 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon with the women's weight throw and concludes on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. with the women's 4x400 meter relay.
"We have entered many of the athletes aggressively to take advantage of competing on the championship venue to gain valuable experience for the future," Lancaster said. "We feel that the intangibles gained from this meet will be extremely beneficial moving forward in the season."
