Troy (6-13, 2-6) hasn't played since last Saturday when the Trojans dropped a tough, 87-82, decision at Texas State in overtime. Texas State scored the final four points of regulation to force overtime and the final nine points of the extra period to pick up the win.
The Trojans had won their previous two games, holding UL Lafayette and UT Arlington to 29 percent shooting each. Troy is now second in the Sun Belt in field goal percentage defense.
Offensively, the Trojans have scored 80-plus in three straight games for the first time since the first three games of last season. Troy hasn't scored 80-plus in four consecutive games since the 1996-97 season when they did so in six straight.
Troy still leads the Sun Belt in scoring (80.2), rebounding (44.6), blocks (4.8) and steals (10.2). Troy is also in the top three in 3-pointers made (5.8), assists (13.4) and turnover margin (+2.47).
Joanna Harden leads the Sun Belt in scoring at 25.0 points per game, nearly 7.0 points ahead of Arkansas State's Aundrea Gamble who is second with an 18.4 points per game average.
Harden has scored 20-plus 15 times this season and is 50 points away from becoming the 20th player in Troy history with 1,000 career points. She would be just the third to do so in two seasons.
Arkansas State (13-7, 7-1) has won seven of eight to open league play, including three straight, and sits in first place half way through the Sun Belt schedule. The Red Wolves are coming off of an 80-68 win at UL Monroe on Wednesday. The Red Wolves are led by Gamble who is one of four players averaging double-figure scoring.
The Red Wolves lead the all-time series over Troy, 9-3, including wins in the last six meetings. That includes a 74-65 win in Jonesboro less than a month ago. Troy led that game by as many as nine points in the second half. However, a late three-minute scoreless stretch by Troy eventually led to Arkansas State's nine-point win.
