Trojans Return Home to Host WKU

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team will play at home for the first time in nearly a month when the Trojans host WKU on Saturday. A special tipoff time of 2:30 p.m. is in place for the game, which will be the second of a doubleheader as the Troy men host WKU prior.

Troy (4-8, 0-1) is coming off of a Sun Belt opening loss at Georgia State on Wednesday, 85-77. After trailing by 13 in the second half, Troy tied the game with 2:03 to go. The score was still tied, 75-75, with 1:00 remaining when GSU scored four points in five seconds to spark a game-ending 10-2 run.
Joanna Harden led the way with 23 points for Troy, including a 10-of-10 mark at the free throw line. Ronita Garrett and Dominique Ross each posted a double-double in a fantastic performance by the Troy post players.
Garrett recorded 14 points, 13 rebounds and six assists while Ross had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Garrett has recorded 35 points and 32 rebounds in Troy's last two games thanks to a 21 point-19 rebounds showing at Savannah State.
Troy enters Saturday's contest averaging a Sun Belt best 84.3 points per game. The Trojans have the 10th best scoring offense in the nation and have scored 80-plus in six of 12 games.
Harden leads the Trojans with a 24.8 points per game average, best in the Sun Belt and fifth best in the NCAA. The senior guard has scored 20-plus in nine of 12 games and is the only player in the nation to score 40-plus twice this season.
WKU (8-4, 0-1), like Troy, is coming in after a Sun Belt opening road loss. The Lady Toppers fell at South Alabama, 74-65, in a game where South Alabama made 9-of-12 3-pointers.
Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year Alexis Govan did not play in that game for WKU, missing the first game of her career. Goavan leads the Lady Toppers in scoring at 16.5 points per game. Chastity Gooch averages 15.9 points and a Sun Belt leading 10.0 rebounds per game.
Troy is 1-14 all-time against WKU, including losses in the last eight meetings. Troy's lone win came on Feb. 14, 2009 at Sartain Hall, 60-57. Troy is 1-6 all-time at home against WKU.
Last season's meeting at Trojan Arena was very close, with the Lady Toppers winning, 84-81. The Trojans made a 3-pointer with 49 seconds to go to take an 80-79 lead before Govan hit her own trey with 23 seconds remaining to give WKU the 82-80 lead. Troy had a chance to tie at the free throw line with 15 seconds left, but made just 1-of-2 and WKU went on to win.
