SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Troy women's basketball team will be looking for its third straight win on Saturday when the Trojans play Texas State for the first time in school history. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum.
Live video and a FREE live audio broadcast will be available through TroyTrojans.com. Live stats will be available through TxStateBobcats.com. Fans can follow @TroyWomensBBall on Twitter for live, in-game updates.
Troy (6-12, 2-5) has halted a losing stretch in a big way, winning by double digits in each of its last two games. That includes a 23-point, 85-62, road win at UT Arlington on Wednesday, Troy's biggest road win (margin of victory) since 2008-09 at UL Lafayette.
The Mavericks 62 points were the fewest allowed by the Trojans this season as Troy held UTA to 29 percent shooting overall, including a 17 percent mark in the first half. Troy has held each of its last two opponents to 29 percent shooting.
However, the defense isn't the only headline as Troy has scored 85-plus in each of the last two games, Troy's first two Sun Belt games over 80 this season. Troy still leads the Sun Belt in scoring at 80.1 points per game. The Trojans also lead the league in rebounding (44.0), blocks (5.0) and steals (10.4).
Joanna Harden, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week, scored 30-plus for the fourth time this season against UT Arlington. The senior guard dropped 32 on the Mavericks and is now averaging 25.2 points per game, good for fourth in the NCAA.
Harden leads the Sun Belt in scoring by nearly 7.0 points over second place and is just 71 points away from scoring her 1,000th career point in just her second season with the Trojans.
Texas State (6-11, 3-3) dropped its most recent game, 77-70, at UALR on Wednesday. The Bobcats trailed by as many 18 points in the second half, but cut the lead down to two points with 59 second remaining before falling on the road.
The Bobcats are led by 6-foot-1 center Ashley Ezeh who averages 14.1 points per game. Ezeh scored 19 points and pulled down seven boards at UALR on Wednesday.
A win on Saturday would give Troy its first three-game winning streak since December 2009, a span of over four years. It would also match last season's overall win total (7) and conference win total (3).
