LEXINGTON, Ky. – Troy wrapped up competition at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Nutter Field House with several personal bests, including a pair of performances that landed two Trojans in the top-10 in the Sun Belt in their respective events.
"We had several athletes show some great improvements, despite the short week of preparation," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "We also had several athletes with great efforts that just need to string all parts of their events together to get the results they deserve."
Dallas Worthy had a tremendous performance in the 400-meters, placing ninth overall with a time of 57.75 seconds, the second fastest time in the Sun Belt Conference this season. Taylor McDonald placed 18th in the event at 59.68 seconds.
Julia Ostendorf also climbed the conference rankings, after finishing the 3k with a time of 10:31.36. She currently sits in eighth in the conference in the event.
Corina Cox placed 17th in the shot put with a throw of 12.64 meters, while Allison Taylor took 32nd in the weight throw with a toss of 13.05 meters, setting a PR.
Lacey Marcus placed 31st in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.06 seconds. Sierra King was close behind her in 34th at 8.08 seconds. Marcus would go on to place 26th in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.34 seconds, just one one-hundredth of a second behind teammate McDonald. King placed 34th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.35 seconds.
Nesha Defoe placed 29th in the long jump with a leap of 4.81 meters, followed closely by Alexus Cobbs at 4.70 meters and Erin Woods at 4.48 meters. Cobbs would go on to take 20th in the triple jump at 10.90 meters.
"We're really looking forward to the week without competition to put in the needed work," Lancaster said. "We showed a lot of improvement this week, and we expect that to continue."
The Trojans now get a weekend off, before heading to the TSU Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. On February 1.
