BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Riley Schwietz and Aleeah Stigarll of the Troy track and field team competed at the Samford Stand Alone Multi Competition on Thursday at the CrossPlex in Birmingham.
"Today was another step closer in preparing for the Sun Belt Championships," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "We had some solid performances from some newcomers in their first collegiate pentathlon."
Schwietz took 12th overall with 2,771 points, while Stigarll was right behind her in 13th with 2,650 points.
Schwietz finished ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.46 seconds, earning 816 points. She would go on to also finish ninth in the 800-meters at 2:38.80. Schwietz placed 13th in both the shot put and long jump as well.
Stigarll's best finish came in the shot put, where she placed eighth at 10.32 meters. She placed 11th in the long jump at 5.01 meters and 13th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.71 seconds. Stigarll tied for 13th in the high jump.
"The athletes got a lot of repetitions and showed quality effort in a wonderful venue today," Lancaster said. "It was a great competition that gave our athletes an opportunity to mix it up and gain some experience. We are very thankful Samford hosted this stand alone competition, as it will surely pay dividends come championship season."
