Troy Soccer Set for In-State Foes UAB, Auburn

TROY, Ala. – The Troy soccer team opens up a three-game road swing by facing a pair of in-state foes this weekend. The Trojans travel to Birmingham to face UAB on Friday at 5 p.m. before traveling to Auburn on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
"Both games are going to be great for our development," Troy head coach Chris Bentley said. "We are excited for the weekend."
Troy (2-2) enters the weekend coming off a 1-1 finish after hosting the Trojan Classic; dropping the first match to Louisiana Tech 2-0 last Friday and rebounding with a 5-0 shutout against Jackson State on Sunday.
Entering the weekend, Troy ranks third in the Sun Belt in points (27) and fourth in goals (9), while the Trojans' back line has only allowed four goals in the first four matches, the third-best mark in the league.
Senior forward Cecilia Thorngren and sophomore midfielder Necee Jennings lead the way with two goals, respectively. Junior defender Paige McMillian leads the Trojans with two assists.
UAB (3-1) comes into Friday's match after picking up a 3-2 overtime win at South Carolina State last Sunday. The Blazers opened the season with a pair of SEC opponents, knocking off Vanderbilt 3-1 to open the season, before falling to Ole Miss 5-2 at home.
The Blazers are led by Abby Philips who leads the team with six points on two goals and a pair of assists. Friday's meeting marks the first time Troy and UAB will meet in soccer.
Auburn (0-2-1) enters the weekend on a two-match losing skid after falling on the road at Samford, 1-0. The Tigers opened the season with a pair of ACC foes, picking up a scoreless draw to open the season before losing at No. 3 Florida State 4-1.
Sunday's match marks the first meeting between the two programs since 2007. Troy is 0-2 all-time versus Auburn.
