Troy Volleyball Falls to WKU in Sun Belt Opener

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team opened Sun Belt play at Trojan on Friday night with a loss to WKU, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-16).

Marija Zelenovic led the Trojans with 14 kills while Blair Winston posted eight kills. Darby Griff posted a .625 attack percentage with five kills and no attack errors on eight swings before exiting in the second set due to injury.

Alexandra Alexander posted a double-double with 32 assists and 11 digs while Ali Dowdall led the way with 12 digs. Kiah Cheatham posted a team-high four blocks while Troy posted 4.0 total team blocks.

The Lady Toppers posted 9.0 total team blocks while Troy (5-10, 0-1) hit .184 as a team, just over its season average. However, WKU (10-5, 1-0) hit .361 as a team with 47 kills and just eight errors.

Paige Wessel led WKU with 10 kills and two attack errors for a .421 attack percentage. Haley Bodway was also in double figures with 12 kills. Melanie Stutsman posted a double-double for WKU with 38 assists and a match-high 14 digs.

The Trojans return to the court on Sunday when they travel to take on Arkansas State at 12 p.m.
