Troy Volleyball Opens Sun Belt Play at Home Friday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team opens Sun Belt play this weekend with a home match against WKU and a road match at Arkansas State. Troy will host WKU at 7 p.m. at Trojan Arena on Friday before traveling to Arkansas State for a 12 p.m. match on Sunday.

Troy (5-9) comes into Friday's match 2-0 at home with wins over Georgia Southern and Alabama State. However, the Trojans enter having lost three straight, all at the Clemson Classic last weekend where they fell to Delaware, Clemson and Alabama.Â
The Trojans were picked to finish second in the Sun Belt in 2013, and will enter conference play with plenty of experience in close matches. Troy has played nearly as many five-set matches (4) as they have three-set matches (5) on the season.
Offensively, Marija Zelenovic leads Troy with a 3.42 kills/set average, the fourth best mark in the Sun Belt. The junior outside hitter has posted double-digit kills in 10 of Troy's 14 matches in 2013.
Courtney Cohen leads the Troy backline with a 4.19 digs/set average, the seventh best mark in the Sun Belt. The senior libero set the Troy career digs record last weekend and now has 1,745 career digs. She is on pace to become the first player in Troy history, and just the fifth in Sun Belt history with 2,000 career digs.
WKU (10-4) enters Friday's match having won four straight. Three of the Lady Toppers' four losses have come to ranked opponents in No.4 USC, No.23 Ohio State and No.16 Florida State. The Lady Toppers were picked to win the Sun Belt in 2013 after winning the league in 2012 with a perfect 15-0 record in league play.
Arkansas State (4-10) enters the weekend coming off of three losses at the Belmont Bruin Classic were the Red Wolves lost to UAB, Belmont and Mississippi State. The Red Wolves were picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt in 2013 after finishing third in the West Division in 2012 with an 8-6 league record.  Arkansas State hosts Georgia State on Friday before hosting Troy on Sunday.
Troy is 0-19 all-time against WKU and 0-9 all-time against Arkansas State.
