Troy Volleyball Drops Two to Close Clemson Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Troy volleyball team closed the Clemson Classic with two four-set losses on Saturday. The Trojans fell to Clemson, 3-1 (25-14, 25-15, 21-25, 26-24), then lost to Alabama, 3-1 (16-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-23).
Saturday's matches marked the final non-conference matches of the season for Troy who opens Sun Belt play on Friday when WKU visits Trojan Arena.
Troy (5-9) went 0-3 at the Clemson Classic after falling to Delaware in five sets on Friday. On the day, Courtney Cohen recorded 17 digs to bring her career total to 1,745 digs, breaking the Troy all-time career record of 1,728 held previously by Vickie Paciski.

CLEMSON 3, TROY 1
Blair Winston posted a .346 attack percentage with 11 kills and just two attack errors, but the Trojans hit just .093 as a team while Clemson (6-4) posted a .284 team attack percentage.
Kayla Pickart also posted 11 kills for the Trojans, but also had 11 attack errors. Alexandra Alexander recorded a double-double with 28 assists and a match-high 15 digs. Ali Dowdall was also in double-figures with 12 digs.
Troy hit just .029 and -.138 in the first two sets, but rebounded to hit .300 in the third set, a set they won 25-21 and led the majority of the way.
After holding Clemson to a .243 attack percentage in their third-set win, the Trojans held the Tigers to a match-low .188 in the fourth set. However, the Tigers came out on top of a very-tight, 26-24, final set.
Clemson was led by Moneshia Simmons who posted 20 kills and Leah Perri who recorded 14 kills and hit .450.
ALABAMA 3, TROY 1
Marija Zelenovic, an all-tournament selection, had the best game of her young Troy career, posting 18 kills and just two attack errors for a .457 attack percentage. Darby Griff was also over .400 with five kills, no attack errors on 11 swings.
The Trojans hit .204 as a team, but Alabama (11-2) hit .231. The win moved the Crimson Tide's winning streak to nine straight.
Zelenovic also posted a double-double with 13 digs, making her the lone Trojan over 10 digs. Dowdball narrowly missed a second straight with double-figures as she posted nine digs.
Troy dominated the first set, hitting .484 with 16 kills and just one error on their way to a 25-16 win. The second set was tight with 16 ties and five lead changes as Alabama won 26-24.
The Trojans hit just .108 and .085, respectively, in the third and fourth sets as Alabama went on to the four-set win.
Alabama, who went 3-0 on the weekend, was led by Krystal Rivers with 13 kills and two attack errors for a .500 attack percentage.
