ATLANTA – The Troy volleyball team continues a tough non-conference schedule this weekend at the Georgia Tech Courtyard Classic. The Trojans will play Connecticut on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CDT before playing Georgia Tech and St. John's on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
All matches are played at O'Keefe Gym on Georgia Tech's campus, and live stats are available for all three through RamblinWreck.com or through TroyTrojans.com. Live video will also be available for Troy's match with Georgia Tech on Saturday.
Troy (3-4) comes into the weekend after a 1-2 showing at the Active Ankle Challenge last weekend. The Trojans defeated Mercer, but fell to tournament champion Green Bay and tournament host Auburn.
Kiah Cheatham was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Week after being named to the Active Ankle Challenge All-Tournament team. The Greenville, S.C., native hit .353 thanks to 28 kills and just four errors in Troy's three matches at the tournament.  She also posted 17 blocks including seven in Troy's win over Mercer.
Defensively, Courtney Cohen enters the weekend third in the Sun Belt with a 4.74 digs/set average. She currently sits with 1,647 career digs, the 12th most among active players in the NCAA. Cohen is just 82 digs away from setting the Troy all-time career record.
Connecticut (3-4) comes into the weekend after going 1-2 at its own UConn Classic last weekend. The Huskies defeated Albany but fell to Northeastern and Pittsburgh. UConn is coming off of a 19-12 season and returns five starters from that team.
Georgia Tech (3-3) went 1-2 at the Sheration Airport Lobo Classic last weekend. The Yellow Jackets defeated UC Riverside but fell to Idaho State and tournament host New Mexico. Georgia Tech is also coming off of a 19-12 season but returns just two starters from that team.
St. John's (5-3) is coming off of a mid-week win over Stony Brook. The Red Storm went 1-2 last weekend at the Holly Young Invitational, defeating Brown but losing to Missouri State and tournament host New Hampshire. St. John's is coming off of a 20-12 season and returns four starters from that team.
Troy has never met Connecticut or Georgia Tech on the volleyball court. The Trojans are 1-0 all-time against St. John's with the win coming in 2009 at a tournament hosted by Miami (OH).
