Troy Set to Host Trojan Classic

TROY, Ala. – The Troy soccer team opens its home schedule by hosting the Trojan Classic at the Troy Soccer Complex starting Friday.
The Trojans (1-1) will face Louisiana Tech on Friday at 3 p.m., before wrapping up play on Sunday afternoon versus Jackson State at 3 p.m. Sun Belt Conference foe South Alabama will also make the trek to Troy to participate in the tournament.
"We are excited to be at home this weekend and played in front of fans," head coach Chris Bentley said. "Louisiana Tech will be a tough challenge that will definitely help us in our preparation for conference play."
Live stats and live video will be available for each match on Troy Trojans All-Access. The tournament central page will be updated throughout the weekend with scores and updates from the Trojan Classic.
During the first weekend of play, Troy split a pair of matches on the road picking up a 3-0 win at Alabama State last Friday, before falling to Stetson 2-1 in overtime. Four different Trojans netted goals in Troy's first two games, while three different players picked up assists.
Troy is 4-3-1 all-time at the Trojan Classic and faced Louisiana Tech (0-2-1) last season at the tournament, fighting to a scoreless draw with the Lady Techsters. In four meetings, Troy is 0-2-2 versus Louisiana Tech all-time.
Jackson State (0-2-1) makes its first appearance in the Trojan Classic coming off a 0-0 draw at Louisiana Tech on Tuesday night. In two previous meetings, Troy owns a 2-0 record against Jackson State, scoring a combined 17 goals in two prior meetings versus the Tigers. Sunday's match marks the first time the two schools have met since 2003.
Troy will wear purple socks in tomorrow's match versus Louisiana Tech in honor of teammate Kailani Decock. After the match, the Trojans and Troy's Kappa Delta Sorority will host a Burrito Mile in their efforts to raise donations for #Project19. Fans who would like to participate can register at the match and purchase #Project19 wristbands for a minimum donation of $5.
