Troy Rodeo Set for College National Finals

CASPER, Wyo. – Five members of the Troy rodeo team will compete at the College National Finals Rodeo June 9-15 after making the 1,700 mile trek to Wyoming for the 65th Annual event at the Casper Events Center.
The top three individuals in each event, and top two men's and women's teams from the NIRA's 11 regions qualified for the CNFR, and will represent over 400 contestants from over 100 universities and colleges at the week-long event.
Sisters Kesia and Kassandra Smith finished the year first and second in the Ozark Region's goat tying standings, and will be two of the Troy representatives on the national stage.
Kelsey Kennemer, just a freshman, qualified for the CNFR in breakaway roping after finishing the year second just 15 points behind Chelsey Merrigan of Missouri Valley College.
Since the women's team picked up the team championship, they are allowed to take four members to represent the Trojans as a team, although they didn't have four finish in the top three of their respective points standings. Cassidy Aldridge will be the fourth Trojan represented and will compete in breakaway roping.
Zack Mabry will be the lone men's team representative, and will compete in the team roping event, where he finished second in the region with 625 total points. Mabry competed alongside Ben Walker of Tennessee-Martin all season, and will be joined at the CNFR by two other Skyhawk duos in John Alley and Clark Adcock, and Lane Mitchell and Clay Mitchell to represent the Ozark Region. .
Each competitor will be given three attempts at their respective event, all in hopes of making Saturday night's short-go to cap the 2012-13 rodeo season. The top-12 finishers of each event will converge at the arena on Saturday night in a finale to determine the national champion of each category, while the men's and women's team champions will also be crowned. Those winners will be determined from the total points achieved from each of the team's members combined throughout the finals.
The CNFR will open with two Matinees' on Sunday, as competitors from bareback riding, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding will open the competition. Kennemer will be the first Trojan to compete as she will take part in the 1 p.m. Matinee as the 23rd competitor to take her turn in the breakaway roping competition. She will hit the arena for her second round in Tuesday's 7 a.m. slack portion, and will close with her third round in Friday night's 7 p.m. performance. Aldridge will go out 37th to open her competition Sunday, before competing in the second round in Monday's slack, and closing Friday night as the 52nd competitor in the third and final go in the event.
Zack Mabry and Ben Walker will pair up on Monday to open competition in the team roping as they are set to be the sixth duo to take to the arena.
They will have little time to rest as they have to get ready for their second round performance Tuesday morning at 7 a.m., before completing the final round in Wednesday night's 7 p.m. performance.
