TROY, Ala. – After taking its second-straight Sun Belt Conference series win last weekend and earning wins in six out of its last eight games, the Troy softball team hits the road for its second straight road midweek contest by traveling to face Auburn on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field.
The matchup between both teams was originally scheduled for March 27, but due to cold temperatures in the Auburn area, the game was moved to Wednesday night.
The Trojans (18-20) earned four wins last week, picking up two doubleheader sweeps by taking down Southern Miss last Tuesday on the road before sweeping FAU Saturday at the Troy Softball Complex. Troy's four-game winning streak was snapped on Sunday by the Owls, as the Trojans fell 5-3 to FAU in the series finale.
Auburn (25-15) enters play fresh off a conference series win at Ole Miss, as the Tigers took a pair of games from the Rebels in Oxford over the weekend. The Tigers have a pair of hitters batting over the .400 mark this season; Emily Carosone leads the club with a .420 batting average and 50 hits while Branndi Mellero leads the squad with eight home runs, 42 RBIs and is currently hitting at a .402 clip.
Troy has continued to be one of the top offenses in the Sun Belt as the Trojans lead the league with 59 doubles and rank in the top-three in batting average, home runs and runs scored. Senior first baseman Caitlin Ortiz has drove in six runs in the past five games and leads the team with a .379 batting average, 11 two-baggers and a .516 on-base percentage.
Over her past six starts, Michaela Hamilton has been the ace of the Troy rotation, picking up three wins, including a complete-game performance on the road last Tuesday at Southern Miss. The senior picked up her fourth victory of the season on Saturday versus FAU, allowing no earned runs (three unearned) and four hits to pick up the win.
Troy continues a four-game road swing by traveling to Miami to face the FIU Panthers in the Sun Belt play this weekend. The Trojans face off against the Panthers in a Saturday doubleheader set to start at 4 p.m. Both teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
