Troy Finishes Ninth at BancorpSouth Intercollegiate

MADISON, Miss. – The Troy men's golf team used its best round out of 54 holes on Tuesday at the Reunion Golf and Country Club with a team score 294 to finish the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate tied for ninth behind consistent play from Tolver Dozier and Jake Tucker.
Three out of Troy's four scores that counted were at one-over or better as Tucker turned in the day's low round with a one-under par, 71. Tucker began play on the 10th and got as low as three-under through the first 13 holes, but dropped three bogeys and an additional birdie on the remaining six holes to finish the day at one-under, and the tournament tied for 22nd at five-over, 221.
Tolver Dozier bounced back after a six-over par second round on Monday, to just a one-over par performance on Tuesday. The sophomore entered his last two holes at two-under, but a double bogey on the eighth and a bogey on the ninth sent him to one-over for the round, as he finished the tournament tied for 27th at seven-over, 223.
Phillip Brennan matched his Tuesday round with Monday's second round and shot a one-over par, 73, to finish as Troy's third-best player. Brennan ended the tournament tied for 40th at 10-over par, 226 overall.
Wil Clowdus also matched his third round with his second as he turned in a five-over par, 77 on Tuesday, to finish the tournament tied for 45th at 11-over, 227.
Kyle Thommesen turned in Troy's high score with a 14-over par, 230, to finish 58th.
Central Arkansas' James Newton edged Steven Fox of Chattanooga by two strokes to claim individual honors, and No. 34 Mississippi State dominated the event with an 18-under par, 846, to win the team title.
The men will be back in action April 9-10 at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in West Point, Miss.
