Trojans Drop Nicholls State at Home

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team rallied in three singles matches, winning all three, on their way to a 6-1 defeated of Nicholls State on Saturday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

Troy (2-6) won the doubles point, but seemed in trouble in singles play as the Colonels won four of the six first sets. However, the Trojans rebounded to win three of those matches for the dominate 6-1 final score.

Tommy Cundy and Andre Stabile at third doubles, and Patrick Eichler and Anas Rouchdi at second doubles, each won 8-6 to give the Trojans the opening point, but Nicholls State (6-6) responded to open singles play.

The Colonels took the first singles match in straight sets at second singles, but Troy's Eichler regained the lead for the Trojans with a 6-4, 6-4 win at fifth singles.

With four matches still on the court, the Trojans had captured just one first set as Sami Ghorbel won his in a tiebreak at third singles and went on to win in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.

Troy still needed a point to clinch the match, but the Trojans fought back in all three matches and captured all three in three sets. Daniel Bustamante was the first Trojan to do so, winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles to clinch the match for Troy.

Tadju Davies climbed back at sixth singles to win 5-7, 6-3, 7-6, while Rouchdi won at first singles, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Complete results are below. The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when both the men and women host Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
