MONTICELLO, Ark. – Lanie Culligan and Kesia Smith both turned in top times in the short-go of the goat tying event to give the Troy women's rodeo team its second-straight team victory, and fourth of the 2012-13 season Saturday night at the Boll Weevil Stampede.
The women also won the team title at the Cossatot Rodeo less than a month ago, and will hold the advantage over all teams in the Ozark Region following Saturday night's action.
Kesia Smith turned in a time of 7.9 seconds in her first run of the goat tying event, and was clocked at 8.8 seconds in the second run to finish first in the average with a 16.7 time, and first overall with 160 points. Lanie Culligan picked up the team's remaining 80 points after finishing the event with an average time of 18.2 seconds.
The Trojans finished with just 240 points, but that's all they needed as they edged East Mississippi by 10. Troy's Kelsey Kennemer and Troy Hatcher advanced to the short-go in team roping, but failed to record a time.
Tennessee-Martin claimed the men's team title with a 795 point total, while the Troy men's team did not place.
