Trojans Fall to No.22 Notre Dame at Blue Gray

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team saw its six-match winning streak snapped on Friday in a loss to No.22 Notre Dame, 4-0, in the first round of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. The tournament runs through Sunday with all matches being played at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.

Troy (7-7) and Notre Dame (9-5) are two of eight teams in the prestigious tournament that features five nationally ranked teams. Troy now takes on No.38 Nebraska in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

“We were outplayed by a good team today,” Troy head coach Eric Hayes said. “Notre Dame has great fundamentals and they're well coached. I thought our intensity was great but we were just beat by a better team today. The great thing about this tournament is tomorrow you get another crack at someone.”

The Trojans are now 0-3 against nationally ranked opponents this season, with Andre Stabile providing a highlight at sixth singles against the Irish. Stabile, who played in the Blue Gray Classic in 2010 with Texas Tech, was entering the third set of his match when the result was decided.

Stabile was the only Trojan to win a set on the day as Notre Dame, which was coming off a win over No.13 Illinois, won at first, second and fifth singles to clinch the match.

The Fighting Irish won at first and third doubles to take the opening point. Complete results are below.
