MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team will take a six-match winning to one of the nation's most prestigious tournaments this weekend as the Trojans travel to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
Troy (7-6) opens its portion of play on Friday at 11 a.m. with a first round match against No.22 Notre Dame. Troy will then face the winner or loser of No.38 Nebraska and Boise State on Saturday.
All matches are being held at Lagoon Park Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala., in what marks the 65th annual Blue Gray Classic.
The eight-team tournament follows a single elimination format with one team champion being crowned on Sunday. All teams will play three matches. Five of the eight teams come into the weekend nationally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Trojans come into the tournament after a 4-3 win over defending OVC champion Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday. The match marked the sixth straight win for the Trojans who are now over .500 after starting the season 1-6.
Senior Anas Rouchdi, Troy's No.1 singles player, is the hottest player on the team, having won seven straight matches, all at first singles. Freshman Daniel Bustamante has also been playing well, having won six straight matches.
Troy junior Andre Stabile has experience with the Blue Gray Classic as he was a member of the 2010 Texas Tech team that won that year's tournament.
Notre Dame (8-5) comes into the weekend having won their last two matches, both against ranked opponents. The Irish No.13 Illinois just over a week ago, marking their sixth straight match against a ranked opponent. Notre Dame went 4-2 in those matches.
Other teams in the tournament include No.34 Columbia, No.29 Cornell, No.47 Texas Tech and William and Mary. For more information on the tournament, visit BlueGrayTennis.com.
