TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After just two days rest since the Tiger Invitational, the Troy men's golf team will look to bounce back on the course as it travels to Tallahassee Friday through Sunday to compete in the Seminole Intercollegiate. The trip marks the fifth-straight year Troy travels to Florida State's tournament.
The three-day event marks the third tournament for Troy in the month of March, and will feature 54 holes of stroke play at the par-72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Club.
The Trojans come fresh off a two-day event in Auburn in which they placed 15th after three tough rounds of golf with a team score 937. Phillip Brennan posted Troy's low scores in that event with a tie for 25th and 54-hole total, 227.
Brennan, a sophomore, enters weekend play with a 76.78 stroke average over nine rounds of play in the 2012-13 season. His tie for 25th at the Tiger Invitational marks his season-best finish, while his low round of the year came at the Golfweek Program Challenge, Troy's first event of the season.
Tolver Dozier comes off an 80th place finish at Auburn and will take a 76.22 stroke average into the weekend. The sophomore is still in search of his second-career win after taking top honors at last fall's ASU Fall Beach Classic.
Jake Tucker most recently passed Dozier in stroke average after play in Auburn, and carries a team-leading 76.11 stroke average to the course this weekend.
Jacob Harper, who has yet to compete this spring, is averaging 77.67 strokes per round and recorded his season-best performance at Troy's first event, the Golfweek Program Challenge, where he placed tied for ninth.
Wil Clowdus enters the event with a 79.50 stroke average, while Kyle Thommesen has improved to a 78.53.
Tucker turned in Troy's low score in last year's Seminole Intercollegiate with a 54-hole total of 212 (70-71-71) to finish tied for 15th. Tolver Dozier finished tied for 32nd with a 216. As a team the Trojans finished 10th out of 18 with a team score 866.
This year's field features 11 teams, seven of which qualified for the NCAA Championships last season, and four ranked in GolfStat's top-50.
Florida State enters as the highest-ranked team at No. 17, while Mississippi State sits at No. 36, North Carolina at No. 49, and Coastal Carolina at No. 50. Boston College, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Mercer, Ohio State and South Florida round out the field of opponents for Troy.
Daniel Berger enters the contest ranked No. 10 as the only competitor in the field in GolfStat's top-100 individuals.
Play will begin at approximately 8:15 a.m. each day and live scoring every three holes will be available through www.GolfStat.com.
