Troy Set for In-State Play

AUBURN, Ala. – Just a week following a ninth place finish in a stacked field of teams at the USF Invitational, the Troy men's golf team will look to take advantage of in-state competition Monday and Tuesday at the 2013 Tiger Invitational.
The tournament will take place at the Grand National – Lake Course in Auburn, a par-72, 7,149-yard landscape. The first round will get underway Monday morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start as play will continue with the second round in 36 continuous holes. Final round tee times are slated for 7:45 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The Trojans are coming off a tournament in Dade City, Fla., in which they closed out the final round with a team score 291, the third-lowest on the season. Jake Tucker was the lowest player for Troy after finishing tied for 14th, while Wil Clowdus carded multiple season bests with a tie for 25th.
Tolver Dozier enters the two-day event with a 74.60 stroke average and is looking to claim his second individual title this season; Dozier sits 17th in the Sun Belt according to statistical rankings.
Jake Tucker heads into the tournament coming off his season-best performance with a 75.67 stroke average, and will look to continue his 2012-13 streak of five straight finishes in the top-25.
Phillip Brennan has seen action in just two events this season, but will take part in his third event looking to improve on a season-best finish of a tie for 49th with a stroke average of 77.33.
Wil Clowdus and Kyle Thommesen, both from Auburn, will look to use the home course advantage and improve on stroke averages of 79.27 and 78.58, respectively.
Similar to the previous tournament, Troy will face some tough competition as 12 of the 15 teams enter ranked in GolfStat.com's top-100. Tournament host Auburn leads the field with a No. 21 ranking, while Wake Forest enters ranked as the No. 24 team. Kennesaw State's Jimmy Beck enters ranked No. 61 in the country, and Evan Beck of Wake Forest leads the field of nationally-ranked competitors with a No. 18 ranking.
