MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball team will look to build off of Saturday's win as the Trojans travel to take on South Alabama on Wednesday. A special tip-off time of 11:30 a.m. is set at the Mitchell Center.
Live stats and live video will be available through USAJaguars.com. Fans in Troy can hear the broadcast on WTBF 94.7 FM beginning at 11:15 a.m.
Troy (4-17, 1-11) is coming off of a home win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday that snapped a 10-game losing streak. The Troy defense was the story as the Trojans allowed a season-low 61 points and held the Cajuns scoreless over the final three minutes.
The loss also snapped a 16-game Sun Belt losing streak as Troy had last won a conference game nearly a year earlier (Feb. 4, 2012), also against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Joanna Harden led the Trojans in scoring for the eighth time this season against the Ragin' Cajuns as she posted 18 points, marking her seventh straight game in double figures.
Over that span, the junior guard is averaging 21.1 points per contest, and in Sun Belt play this season she is averaging 17.2 per game, the fifth best mark in the league.
As a team, the Trojans average 74.5 points per game, tops in the Sun Belt and 16th in the NCAA. Troy is also the top rebounding team in the Sun Belt at 41.5 boards per game.
South Alabama (12-10, 5-8) comes in having lost three straight games, including a 65-34 set back at UALR on Saturday. The Lady Jags average just 56.1 points per game, last in the Sun Belt, but they give up just 54.5 per game, second in the Sun Belt.
South Alabama is led by Mary Nixon who averages 11.3 points per game and Mansa El who averages 9.1 points per game. Troy head coach Chanda Rigby knows each player well as she coached against both Nixon (Gulf Coast State) and El (Tallahassee) in the Panhandle Conference.
Troy is 13-17 all-time against South Alabama, including a 4-11 mark in Mobile. Troy dominated the series in the 1970s, but since the Trojans joined the Sun Belt in 2005-06, they are just 2-13 against South Alabama.
