KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Troy women's basketball team will play its highest ranked opponent in program history on Saturday when the Trojans travel to take on No. 3/3 Tennessee. Tipoff at Thompson-Boling Arena is set for 1 p.m. CST.
The game will be televised on SportSouth and can be heard in Troy on WTBF 94.7 FM or online at TroyTrojans.com for FREE. Live stats will be available through UTSports.com. Fans can also follow @TroyWomensBBall on Twitter for live, in-game updates.
Troy (4-4) is coming off of a 94-86 win over Evansville on Sunday. The win over the Purple Aces closed a four-game homestand as the Trojans now face four straight on the road.
The Trojans used a 20-0 second-half run to get past Evansville while Joanna Harden finished with 43 points, her second 40-point game of the season. Harden is the only player in the NCAA, men's or women's, to score 40-plus twice this season.
Harden (26.6 ppg) is the nation's third leading scorer and has scored 20-plus in six of eight games this season. She is the leading scorer on a Troy team that averages 85.2 points per game, tops in the Sun Belt and 15th in the NCAA.
Troy also leads the Sun Belt in 3-pointers made (7.1/g), rebounding (48.4 rpg), blocks (5.5 bpg), steals (10.5 spg) and turnover margin (+3.88).
Tennessee (8-0) is one of 17 remaining unbeaten teams in the nation after a 75-61 win over Texas at home on Sunday. The Lady Vols are outscoring opponents by an average of nearly 20 points per game.
Under second-year head coach Holly Warlick, a longtime assistant under Pat Summitt, the Lady Vols are looking to build on a 27-8 campaign in 2012-13 that saw Tennessee advance to the NCAA Elite Eight after winning the SEC Regular Season title.
Saturday's meeting will be the first between Troy and Tennessee all-time. The Trojans have never defeated a ranked opponent. No. 3/3 Tennessee will be the highest ranked team Troy has faced, topping a game in 2010-11 at No. 5/5 Xavier.
