TROY, Ala. – Troy volleyball senior libero Courtney Cohen was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team on Thursday, marking the third straight year on the team for the Woodstock, Ga., native.
The award comes just ahead of the final two regular season home matches for the Trojans. Troy hosts Arkansas State on Friday at 7 p.m. and UT Arlington on Saturday at 7 p.m. Saturday's match marks Senior Night for Cohen and fellow senior Alexandra Alexander.
Cohen, a biomedical sciences major with a 3.96 GPA, is Troy's all-time leader with 1,943 career digs. She is 57 digs away from becoming the first Trojan and sixth player in Sun Belt history with 2,000 career digs.
This marks the third straight year Cohen has made the Academic All-District team, which consists of just eight players from all Division I schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Cohen is now a finalist to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team.
Cohen, Alexander and the Trojans (9-19, 4-10) will be looking to snap a seven-match losing streak when Arkansas State visits Trojan Arena on Friday.Â
The Trojans are looking to rebound quickly from a four-set loss to South Alabama at home on Wednesday. Blair Winston led Troy in that match with 19 kills while Alexander posted a double-double with 51 assists and 16 digs. Cohen was also in double figures with 12 digs.
Saturday's match against UT Arlington will mark the final regular season home match for Cohen and Alexander who have played in 123 and 120 matches, respectively, in their Trojan careers.
The two will have something to say about Saturday being their final home match, though, as the Trojans look to qualify for the Sun Belt Championships, being held at Trojan Arena in just two weeks.
Arkansas State (11-18, 6-8) comes in having lost five straight, including sweeps at South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette last weekend. The Red Wolves and Trojans met earlier this season in Jonesboro, Ark., with ASU winning that match in five sets.
UT Arlington (15-12, 8-6) comes into the weekend having lost three straight, including home matches against Georgia State and WKU last weekend. The Mavericks and Trojans met earlier this season in Arlington, Texas, with UTA winning that match in five sets. The Mavericks will play at South Alabama on Friday before traveling to Troy.
