TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team snapped a seven match losing streak, and did so after dropping the first set, against an Arkansas State team Troy had previously never beaten, 3-1 (23-25, 31-29, 25-23, 25-22).

Troy (10-19, 5-10) moves ahead of Georgia State, who lost to UALR on Friday night, and into eighth place in the Sun Belt standings. The win also gets the Trojans within a game of Arkansas State (11-19, 6-9) who has now dropped four straight.

Kayla Pickart had a monster game for Troy, posting a career-high 21 kills and a career-high .500 attack percentage. Marija Zelenovic posted 20 kills for the Trojans while Blair Winston had 14 for a Troy team that hit .275 in the match.

Courtney Cohen led all players with 25 digs while Alexandra Alexander posted another double-double with 55 assists and 10 digs. Alexander how has 1,014 assists on the year, her second straight season with at least 1,000.

The Red Wolves hit .268 in the match, but .467 in a first set that they won, 25-23. Troy rebounded and had three set points in the second set up 24-21. However, the Trojans had to hang on in an intense set that went to the Trojans, 31-29.

Troy used the momentum of the tight win and held ASU to a .114 attack percentage with just 10 kills and six attack errors in the third set.

The match seemed to be going to a fifth set with the Red Wolves leading the fourth set 22-20. However, after a Troy timeout, the Trojans scored five straight, including three kills from Zelenovic, to take the set, 25-22, and the match.

Arkansas State was led offensively by Kendal Davis who posted 16 kills. Megan Baska led three players in double-figures with 13 digs.

Troy returns to the court on Saturday when UT Arlington visits for what will be Senior Night for Cohen and Alexander. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Trojan Arena.
