MACON, Ga. – The Troy women's basketball team will look to rebound from its first loss when the Trojans travel to Mercer on Tuesday. Tipoff at Hawkins Arena is set for 6 p.m. CST.
A free audio broadcast will be available through TroyTrojans.com. Live video will be available for free at ASun.TV and live stats can be found at MercerBears.com. For live in-game updates, follow @TroyWomensBBall on Twitter.
Troy (2-1) will be looking to rebound from a 77-71 loss to Tennessee State at home last Friday. The game was close throughout, but with Troy leading 56-54 with 7:45 to go, TSU used a 19-3 run to take control. The late loss came just four days after Troy won a game in similar fashion, using a 20-4 run over the final five minutes to beat Florida A&M, 100-88, at home last Monday.
Joanna Harden scored 20 and 26 points, respectively in the two home games last week and leads the Trojans at 19.3 points per game, the second best mark in the Sun Belt. Harden and fellow guard Ashley Beverly-Kelley (16.0 ppg) are the top scoring backcourt in the Sun Belt.
The two lead a Troy team that averages 82.7 points per game, the best mark in the Sun Belt. The Trojans are averaging 30.3 points per game off of opponent turnovers, compared to just 13.0 per game by Troy's opponents.
Troy is forcing an average of 29.7 turnovers per game, the best mark in the Sun Belt. The Trojans have forced at 25-plus turnovers in three straight games for the first time since 2000-01 when they did so four times.
Mercer (1-2) has lost two straight, both on the road. The Bears fell at Belmont before dropping a contest at No. 22 Georgia. The Bears' lone win came over Western Carolina at home to open the season.
Mercer, a 20-12 team a year ago, was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Sun this season. The Bears return Precious Bridges, who led the A-Sun in scoring a year ago at 16.8 points per game.
Troy is 10-13 all-time against Mercer, with 16 of those 23 meetings coming between 1997 and 2005 when Troy was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The two teams have met three times since Troy moved to the Sun Belt, with Mercer winning the last two.
Last season, the Bears won 96-90 in the first women's game at Trojan Arena. A late Troy rally fell just short after the Trojans trailed by 21 points with 8:31 to go.
