Troy Women Roll to Second Straight Rodeo Title; Men Finish Fifth

MURRAY, Ky. – The Troy women's rodeo team won for the second time in as many weeks, while the Troy men finished in fifth place at the Murray State Rodeo this weekend. Kassandra Smith won the individual goat tying completion for the second straight week and John Pitts brought home the title in bull riding.
As they did in the season-opening rodeo last week, the Trojan women dominated the goat tying event as Kassandra Smith and Kesia Smith combined to score 300 points in a one-two finish. The duo each scored 55 points in the first run as they turned in times of 7.1 seconds.
Kassandra Smith recorded a time 8.2 seconds in round two and Kesia Smith finished right behind with a time of 8.4 seconds to score 50 and 30 points, respectively. Kassandra Smith won the average time to tally 60 more points and Kesia Smith finished second, which added 50 points to Troy's tally.
Pitts won the bull riding event for the Trojans with a score of 71; his first-place finish was good for 120 points.
Will Batchelor and Curtis Culligan took home 90 points and a third-place finish in team roping after registering times of 9.0 and 10.7 in the two rounds. Nelson Wyatt finished in eighth place and scored 35 points in calf roping after closing out the first round with a time of 10 seconds flat.
Next up for the Trojans will be a trip to Livingston, Ala., for the West Alabama Rodeo this upcoming weekend.
