Troy Tennis Completes Duckworth Family Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Troy men's and women's tennis teams competed at the Duckworth Family Fall Classic hosted by Clemson this weekend.
In women's double play, Lyubov Dorofeeva and Margot De Haan advanced to the finals of their draw. The pair defeated a duo from Wofford in the first round, 8-2, before knocking off a pair from USC-Upstate in the semifinals, 8-4.
Dorofeeva and De Haan fell in the finals to Tijana Uzelac and Beth Williamson of Winthrop, 8-6.
In the same draw, Troy's Monica Gonzalez played with Sarah Vande Berg of USC Upstate, but the pair lost all three of their matches.
In women's singles play, De Haan advanced to the finals of the sixth flight thanks to an easy 6-2, 6-1 win over Camile Amrani from Winthrop and a tight, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 win over Catherine Martion from Wofford.
In the flight championship match, De Haan fell to Olga Klodzitsa or Armstrong Atlantic, 6-4, 7-6.
Dorofeeva dropped three matches in the third flight and Gonzalez dropped two matches in seventh flight to close out action for the Trojan women.
On the men's side, Mansingh Athare advanced to the finals of the second flight, but fell to Clemson's Dudley, 6-3, 6-4.
Also on the men's side, Sami Ghorbel won the consolation draw of the first singles flight while Daniel Bustamante finished third in the first singles draw.
Both teams return to play when they travel to the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships. The men's regional begins on Thursday in Tuscaloosa, Ala., while the women's regional begins next Thursday, October 17, in Auburn, Ala.
