Troy Volleyball Sweeps Louisiana-Lafayette

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team used a solid defensive effort and picked up a home sweep over Louisiana-Lafayette, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21), on Friday night at Trojan Arena.
Troy (7-11, 2-2) evened its Sun Belt record and held the Ragin' Cajuns to a .125 attack percentage. Troy hit .224 as a team as the Cajuns had just 1.0 total team block.
Troy held Louisiana-Lafayette (11-7, 1-3), the Sun Belt's top serving team coming into the match, to just one service ace while the Trojans posted five aces themselves.
"I'm really proud of what our team did," Troy head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick. "They came out and worked hard. If we're playing well we can be a little bit more aggressive and I thought tonight we were. We were relentless on defense and we attacked at a pretty good rate too."
Marija Zelenovic posted two aces and led the Trojans with 12 kills. Zelenovic hit .257 while Blair Winston led the way with a .364 attack percentage thanks to nine kills and just one attack error on 22 swings.
Alexandra Alexander posted a double-double with 27 assists and match-high 16 digs. Zelenovic also had a double-double with 10 digs while Courtney Cohen was also in double figures with 10.
Troy hit a match-high .282 in the opening set with 14 kills and just three errors while the Cajuns posted a .133 attack percentage in a 25-20 Troy win. The second set was tied 14 times, including as late as 19-19 before Troy used a three-point run to take control and go on to win 25-21.
The Trojans held the Cajuns to 11 kills and 10 attack errors in the third set for a match-low .028 attack percentage while taking a 9-5 lead early on the way to a 25-21 win in the deciding set.
Louisiana-Lafayette was led by Tonice White who had 11 kills and hit .364. Andrea Hole posted a double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs while Taylor Meade led the Cajuns with 15 digs.
Troy returns to the court on Monday when UALR visits for an 11 a.m. match. The match was originally scheduled for Sunday but moved do to the threat of severe weather.
