Trojans Host Sun Belt Matches on Friday and Monday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team will host a pair of Sun Belt matches this weekend. The Trojans will welcome Louisiana-Lafayette to Trojan Arena on Friday and UALR will visit on Monday.
Friday's match is set to begin at 7 p.m. while Monday's will start at 11 a.m.  Admission to both matches is FREE. Live stats and live video for both matches will be available at TroyTrojans.com.  Monday's match was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, but was moved due to the threat on severe weather.
Troy (6-11, 1-2) is coming off of a road sweep at South Alabama on Wednesday. The Trojans hit .248 and snapped a five-match losing streak that including Troy's first two Sun Belt matches.
Last weekend, the Trojans were swept at home by WKU on Friday before traveling to falling to Arkansas State in five sets on Sunday.
Marija Zelenovic has led the Trojans offensively thus far in 2013. The junior outside hitter is averaging 3.33 kills/set, the fifth best mark in the Sun Belt. Freshman Kiah Cheatham has the top attack percentage on the team at .286.
Alexandra Alexander is averaging 8.06 assists/set to lead the Trojans while her 2.53 digs/set average sits second. Courtney Cohen leads the way defensively with 4.05 digs/set.
Louisiana-Lafayette (11-6, 1-2) also picked up its first Sun Belt win on Wednesday as the Ragin' Cajuns swept ULM at home. The Cajuns opened Sun Belt play with three-set losses at Texas State and UT Arlington last weekend.
UALR (11-4, 3-0) comes into the weekend with a nine-game winning streak that includes a perfect start to Sun Belt play. The Trojans defeated Arkansas State in four sets at home on Wednesday. UALR opened league play with a road win at South Alabama and a home win over Georgia State last weekend.
UALR features one of the top players in nation in Edina Begic who ranks among the top five in the NCAA with a 5.63 kills/set average. Begic has won the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week award four consecutive times.
UALR will play at ULM on Friday before traveling to Troy for Monday's match.
Since moving to Division I in 1993, Troy is 7-5 against Louisiana-Lafayette, including a 4-1 mark at home. The Ragin' Cajuns won in Troy last season, but the Trojans won a quarterfinal between the two at the Sun Belt Championships.
Troy is 2-6 against UALR since moving to Division I, including a 1-3 mark at home. Troy won the only meeting between the two last season, knocking off UALR in four sets in Little Rock.
