Troy Volleyball Drops Intense Five-Set Match to UALR

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team dropped a very intense, five-set match to UALR at home on Monday, 3-2 (25-22, 24-26, 25-21, 18-25, 15-9).

Troy (7-12, 2-3), after trailing 2-1, dominated the fourth set to force a deciding set, however, UALR hit .333 and scored the final five points to take a 15-9 win. Both sides posted a .169 attack percentage on the match.

"It came down to somebody making plays and we didn't," Troy head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "I thought we had a good plan in place. When we executed, it worked very well, but when we didn't they went on runs."

Blair Winston posted 20 kills for the Trojans and hit .280 while Marija Zelenovic and Kayla Pickart where also in double figures with 15 and 10 kills, respectively.

Courtney Cohen posted a match-high 23 digs while Ali Dowdall and Kelley Curran were also in double figures with 14 and 13, respectively. Alexandra Alexander posted a match-high 52 assists and also posted six total blocks.

UALR (13-4, 5-0) won its 11th straight match and was led by Edina Begic and Sonja Milanovic who each posted 22 kills. Begic also posted a team-high 21 digs.

UALR posted 17 kills in the first set on their way to a 25-22 win, but the Troy defense held the visiting Trojans to a -.026 attack percentage in the second set on its way to a 26-24 win to even the match.

Troy posted 15 kills in the third set, but UALR recorded a match-high .361 attack percentage on its way to a 25-21 win and a 2-1 lead in the match.

Troy dominated the fourth set, holding UALR to a -.115 attack percentage with six kills and nine errors. Troy hit .321 in the set as it rattled off a 25-18 win.

The fifth set was close as UALR led 10-9, but Begic posted two kills and Troy had three attack errors as UALR scored five straight to take a 15-9 win in the final set.

Troy returns to the court on Friday when Georgia State visits for a 7 p.m. match at Trojan Arena. Troy closes its current home stand when ULM visits on Sunday.
