Trojans Drop Home Match to Texas State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Texas State on Sunday at Trojan Arena, 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19).Â
Troy (9-16, 4-7) has now lost four straight matches with a road trip to Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM coming up next weekend.Â
The Trojans hit .136 in the match with Marija Zelenovic leading the way with 17 kills. Blair Winston posted 14 kills while Darby Griff returned from injury and led the way with a .214 attack percentage.
Bruna Souza posted 33 assists and 18 digs and was one of two Trojans with a double-double. Zelenovic also posted a season-high 23 digs while Ali Dowdall was also in double figures with 18 digs.
Troy hit just .000 in the first set as Texas State went on to a 25-15 win. The Trojans rebounded and posted a .302 attack percentage in the second set on their way to a 25-19 win.
The third set was tightly contested with 12 ties, including as late as 22-22 before Texas State used two Troy service errors on their way to a 25-23 lead. The Bobcats went on to win the fourth set, 25-19.
Texas State (16-10, 6-5) was led by Kelsey Weynand and Amari Deardorff who each posted 12 kills. The Bobcats hit .210 as a team and had five with double-figure digs including Sierra Smith who recorded 21 digs.
The Trojans return to the court on Friday when they travel to take on Louisiana-Lafayette before traveling to ULM on Saturday.
