Winter Earns Second SBC Weekly Honor | #Project19 | SBC Standings
TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team hosts ULM on Thursday at 3 p.m., at the Troy Soccer Complex. The game will be the final regular season home game for the Trojans.
Troy has already secured a spot in the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Championships, after knocking off South Alabama at home on Sunday, 1-0. Necee Jennings got the lone goal in the 67th minute off of a nice feed from Annabell Simpson. Madison Winter made seven saves in the win, picking up her fourth shutout of the season and earning SBC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Jennings currently leads the team in scoring with seven goals and 14 points. Senior Cecilia Thorngren and freshman Abby Reynolds are tied for second on the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists.
Winter has seen the majority of the playing time in net over the past several weeks. She is 4-2 on the season, with all four wins coming in shutout efforts. Her 0.56 goals against average and .895 save percentage are both tops in the league.
Troy is 5-3 all-time against ULM, including four straight wins. Last season, the Trojans knocked off the Warhawks, 3-0, on the road. Chelsey Williams, Chanel Elgin and Louise Cheng all scored for the Trojans.
Just two games remain for the Trojans before the SBC Championships in San Marcos, Texas. Troy will hit the road following the game on Thursday to face Louisiana-Lafayette in the regular season finale.
