Soccer Set to Face Arkansas State on Thursday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy soccer team looks to record its first win in Sun Belt play as the Trojans host the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Looking to rebound after a 2-1 loss to Texas State on Sunday to start league action, Troy (4-7-0, 0-1-0) looks to pick up a valuable three points against the Red Wolves to close out a two-game homestand.
In Sunday's loss to Texas State, the Trojans and Bobcats traded early goals in the first five minutes of play to keep the match level. Texas State's Ali Myers added the game-winning goal in the 17th minute to seal the win for the Bobcats. In the second half, the Trojans had several opportunities to tie the match, but could not convert their chances.
Senior Cecilia Thorngren scored Troy's lone goal in the match, bring her season total to four. Thorngren currently is tied for eighth in school history with former Trojan Lynn Rankin (2001-03, '05) with 13 career goals.
Freshman Necee Jennings continues to lead Troy with five goals this season, while Thorngren ranks second on the team. Freshman Abby Reynolds and senior Maddie Tieken are tied for third on the team with three goals apiece.
Junior Caitlin Buono and senior Madison Winter split time in goal for the second straight match against Texas State last Sunday. Buono allowed both goals during the first half as Winter played the entire second half and recorded five saves.
Arkansas State (6-3-2, 1-0-0) enter Thursday's match after rallying from two goals down to defeat UALR last Sunday. The Red Wolves are led Loren Mitchell who leads the team with 17 points (seven goals and three assists) while Christina Fink and Christine Giles are second on the squad with four goals a piece, respectively.
Troy is 4-4-0 all-time versus Arkansas State and are 3-2-0 against the Red Wolves at the Troy Soccer Complex. The Trojans also look to snap a four-match losing streak to Arkansas State that dates back to 2009.
The Trojans begin on a three-match road trip starting on Sunday at UALR at 1 p.m. Troy will also travel to Western Kentucky on Oct. 11 and conclude the road swing at Georgia State on Oct. 13.
