Troy Soccer Hosts South Alabama in Pivotal SBC Match

TROY, Ala. – The Troy soccer team faces in-state foe South Alabama on Sunday at the Troy Soccer Complex at 1 p.m. Sunday's match marks Senior Day for five Troy seniors and each player will be honored during a pre-game ceremony before the match.
"South Alabama is a team that can we the conference tournament. We have a lot of respect for them and what they have done this year," Troy head coach Chris Bentley said ahead of Sunday's match. "It's been a good week of training so far and we look forward to seeing the results of our hard work Sunday."

Troy (6-9-0, 2-3-0) ended a three-game road swing dropping a pair of close decisions against Western Kentucky and Georgia State last weekend. The Trojans picked up a 2-1 overtime win over the Jaguars last season in Mobile. Troy is 4-4-1 all-time against South Alabama and are 4-3-1 against the Jaguars since joining the Sun Belt Conference.
Troy seniors Caitlin Buono, Samantha Morgan, Maddie Tieken, Cecilia Thorngren and Madison Winter will be recognized before Sunday's match against South Alabama (10-4-2, 3-1-1).
Last weekend, Troy battled the Western Kentucky for a scoreless 88 minutes, but late goal by the Lady Toppers downed the Trojans 1-0 in Bowling Green. On Sunday, Troy battled back from an early deficit at Georgia State as Jane Latif put in the equalizer in the 89th minute to tie the match at 1-1 to force overtime. The Panthers added the game-winner in the 99th minute as the Trojans fell 2-1.
Necee Jennings continue to pace Troy with a team-leading six goals, while Abby Reynolds and Thorngren are tied for second on the club with four goals apiece. With one assist, Thorngren can move into a tie for first in school history in assists.
Thorngren has made her mark on the Troy record book in her four years at Troy as the senior ranks fourth in game-winning goals (5), tied for fourth in shots (94), tied for sixth in points (39) and tied for eighth in goals (13).
Troy goalkeeper Madison Winter and the Trojans' back line will be faced with stopping the Sun Belt's top offensive club as South Alabama leads the league in shots, goals and points. The Jaguars are led by the conference's top goal-scorer Lauren Allison, who has posted 10 goals and 10 assists in 2013.
USA goalkeeper Melissa Drish is third in the league with 72 saves and has recorded eight of the Jaguars' 10 victories this season.
Troy wraps up its home slate next Thursday against ULM at 3 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex and admission is free.
