Soccer Set for UNCW Courtyard Marriot Wilmington Invitational

Wilmington, N.C. – The Trojans (4-2-1) take the pitch this weekend for their second tournament in as many weeks, at the UNCW Courtyard Marriot Wilmington Invitational on the campus of UNC Wilmington. Troy will face Elon on Friday at 4 p.m. and will face the host school at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Last weekend, Troy picked up a win and a tie at the 2012 Trojan Classic. The Trojans battled to a 0-0 draw against Louisiana Tech on Friday before defeating Stetson, 1-0, on Sunday. Chelsey Williams scored for the Trojans, finishing from the penalty spot in the eighth minute against the Hatters. Williams, Payton Donley and Paige McMillan were all named to the all-tournament team.

Elon enters the weekend 1-3-1, with its lone win coming against VMI. The Phoenix have played a tough early season schedule, with matches against Duke, Coastal Carolina and North Carolina State. Samantha Burch leads the squad with three points on one goal and one assist this season. Five different Elon players have scored a goal this season.

UNC Wilmington (2-2-1) has also faced a challenging schedule to begin the season. The Seahawks faced three top-25 teams to kick off the 2012 campaign, including a 0-0 draw against third-ranked Wake Forest. Last weekend, UNCW picked up a pair of wins, defeating Charlotte, 3-0, and Davidson, 3-2. Morgan Leyble and Stephanie Rose lead the Seahawks with five points each.

This weekend marks the first ever matchup for the Trojans with both teams.
