Trojans Drop Sun Belt Match at North Texas

DENTON, Texas – The Troy soccer team (5-7-1, 0-3-0) was defeated by North Texas (9-3-1, 4-0-0), 5-1, on Sunday afternoon in Sun Belt play. Chelsey Williams scored the lone goal for the Trojans midway through the first half.
“We were a shadow of ourselves today,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “We are definitely disappointed with the result and need to get back on track in training this week.”
North Texas scored just four minutes in, with Karla Pineda netting her fourth goal of the season on a header. Less than five minutes later, Michelle Young doubled the Mean Green's lead after stealing the ball from the goalkeeper.
Williams cut the lead in half in the 18th minute, scoring on a header off of an assist from Cecilia Thorngren for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Mean Green scored another in the 34th minute, with Alyson Stallcup heading in the corner kick. North Texas added two more in the second half to expand the lead.
The Trojans return home on Friday, October 5 to take on Arkansas State at 3:00 p.m., followed by UALR on Sunday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m.
