TROY, Ala. – Troy (5-8-1, 0-4-0) was defeated by Arkansas State (9-5-0, 3-2-0), 2-1, on Friday afternoon at the Troy Soccer Complex.
“It showed in the second half that we competed more,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “But I don't think we did enough of the things that we do well to get the result today. I think we have to put more focus on playing our game.”
Troy fought back, scoring with just two minutes remaining to cut the lead to one, but ran out of time. Jasmine Fahrnbauer headed in her second goal of the season, off of a free kick by Louise Cheng from the right corner.
“I'm happy to see her doing the things that she's good at,” Bentley said. “Getting up and winning balls in the air is a strong suit for her.”
ASU got on the board first, scoring on a long-range shot by Loren Mitchell from the left corner of the 18-yard box in the 15th minute.
The Red Wolves doubled their lead in the 33rd minute, with Christina Fink heading in a cross from Ashley McMurtry.
Troy had a great opportunity early in the second half, as Katie Cersley sent in a nice ball from the right flank, but the Trojans couldn't capitalize as the ball bounced around in the box before being corralled by the goaltender.
The Trojans are back in action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when they host UALR for Senior Day at the Troy Soccer Complex.
