Men's Tennis Finishes Successful Weekend at Southern Miss Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Troy men's tennis team had a successful weekend at the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Trojans opened play on Friday, splitting its singles matches against UAB and Lamar and defeating South Alabama in doubles, 3-0. Troy had begun Saturday by winning two-of-three matches against New Orleans before competition was halted due to rain.

Daniel Bustamante was victorious for the Trojans in their first match against UAB, winning at fourth singles, 7-5,6-3. Patrick Eichler won at fifth singles, 7-6 (0-3), 7-6 (7-4), while Mansingh Athare won at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Against Lamar, Bustamante was again victorious in fourth singles, 6-4, 6-4, while Athare won at fifth singles, 7-5, 6-1.

The Trojans took to doubles to close out the first day of competition, facing South Alabama. Sami Ghorbel and Eichler won a marathon match at first doubles, 9-7. Rouchdi and Athare were victorious in second doubles, 8-5, while Tommy Cundy and Josh Hurd were dominant in third doubles, winning 8-1.

On Saturday, Eichler need a come-from-behind effort to take the win at fifthsingles against New Orleans, 2-6, 6-1, 10-5. Ahare also completed his match on Saturday, winning at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-2.
