DENTON, Texas – The Trojans will be looking to get their first conference result of the season on Sunday when they travel to Denton, Texas to take on the North Texas Mean Green at 1:00 p.m.
Troy (5-6-1, 0-2-0) is looking to snap a four-game skid at its first away Sun Belt match of the season. Last weekend, the Trojans fell to Florida Atlantic, 2-0, and FIU, 2-1 in overtime. Jasmine Fahrnbauer picked up her first collegiate goal against the Panthers on Sunday, heading in a corner kick off the foot of Cecilia Thorngren, to force overtime.
Thorngren currently leads the team with 14 points on four goals and six assists. Her six assists are tied for the most in the Sun Belt this season, while her three game-winning goals are second most. Chelsey Williams is second on the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Overall, nine different Trojans have scored a goal this season, while 13 have recorded a point.
North Texas (7-3-1, 2-0-0) enters the weekend having swept Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM last weekend. Carly McDowell scored both goals in a 2-0 win over the Ragin' Cajuns, while Kelsey Hodges and Michelle Young each scored once in a 2-1 win against the Warhawks. The Mean Green will also face South Alabama on Friday night.
Entering the weekend, Hodges leads the team with 14 points on seven goals, while Karla Pineda is in second with 10 points on three goals and four assists. Jackie Kerestine has received the majority of the playing time in goal, posting a league-low 0.90 goals against average and a 0.818 save percentage.
The Trojans have never defeated the Mean Green, going 0-9-0 in the series dating back to 1997, the first year of the program at Troy. Last season, North Texas defeated Troy twice. The first came in Denton, with the Mean Green winning 4-1, while the second came in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, with the Trojans falling 2-0.
