TROY, Ala. – The Troy soccer team (5-5-1, 0-1-0) dropped its Sun Belt opener on Friday afternoon, losing to Florida Atlantic (3-5-0, 1-0-0), 2-0, at the Troy Soccer Complex.
“We showed a lot of quality today,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “We showed a lot of quality in possession and we created a lot of opportunities for ourselves but we just didn't finish.”
The Owls broke the draw in the 65th minute. Natalia Hernandez broke away from the Trojan defense and fired a shot on net. Katie Comeno-Lewis made the initial save, but the Hernandez capitalized on the rebound.
Claire Emslie doubled the Owls' lead in the 76th minute, firing in a hard shot from just inside the 18-yard box that sailed past the goalkeeper.
The Trojans held control of the ball for much of the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Trojans are back in action on Sunday, September 23, when they host FIU at 1:00 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex.
