2012 Trojan Classic Begins Friday

TROY, Ala. – The 2012 Trojan Classic is set to begin on Friday, with four matches taking place at the Troy Soccer Complex over the weekend. The action kicks off at 12 p.m. with Stetson taking on Jacksonville State. Troy's first match will come against Louisiana Tech at 3 p.m.
The Trojans then take on Stetson at 12 p.m. on Sunday, followed by Jacksonville State against Louisiana Tech at 3 p.m.

Troy (3-2-0) comes into the weekend after splitting a pair of matches in South Carolina last weekend. The Trojans took down Wofford, 1-0, on Friday before falling to Furman on Sunday by an identical 1-0 score. Jane Latif scored Troy's lone goal on the weekend, her second of the season, with Chanel Elgin recording her first point as a Trojan on the assist.
Cecilia Thorngren leads the Trojans this season with 10 points on three goals and four assists. Chelsey Williams currently has six points on two goals and two assists.
Troy is 0-2 all-time against Louisiana Tech. The first meeting came in 2008, also at the Trojan Classic, with Louisiana Tech winning 1-0. Last season, Finola Corley gave the Lady Techsters another 1-0 victory, scoring on a header in the 47th minute.
Troy is 1-5-1 against Stetson, but hasn't faced the Hatters since 2004, with most matches coming while both teams were members of the A-Sun.
Louisiana Tech (4-0-0) is averaging 5.0 goals per game on the season and has outscored its opponents 20-1 in four matches. Rosie Lethbridge leads the Lady Techsters with eight points on three goals and two assists, while both Emily Brennan and Heather Fitzgerald each have three goals. Goaltender Caitlyn Updyke has recorded a .923 save percentage and has picked up three shutouts.
Jacksonville State (3-1-0) is currently riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Jackson State and Alabama A&M last weekend. Courtney Hurt leads the Gamecocks with seven points on three goals and one assist this season. Katelyn Geddings has led Jacksonville State in net, posting a 0.86 goals against average and a .850 save percentage.
Stetson (1-2-0) picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, taking down Embry-Riddle, 2-1, in overtime. Alyssa Welsh currently leads the Hatters with two goals on the season. Victoria Troccoli has played every minute in net for Stetson, posting a .720 save percentage.
Last season, Troy defeated Nicholls State and Alcorn State at the Trojan Classic. The Trojans defeated Nicholls State 1-0 and Alcorn State 7-0. South Alabama, the fourth team in attendance, also won both games.
