TROY, Ala. -- The Troy soccer team (2-1-0) dropped its first match of the season on Wednesday, 5-0, against Ole Miss (3-0-0) at the Troy Soccer Complex.
The two teams battled to a stand-still for the majority of the first half, before Ole Miss took command.
“We didn't do enough in defense and they finished their chances,” said head coach Chris Bentley. “We did create some things in the attack and we did some nice things that we can work off of moving forward.”
The Rebels earned a corner kick in the 32nd minute after the ball bounced around Trojans box. Olivia Harrison got the scoring started off the corner with a quality finish to the far post.
Harrison would double the Rebels' lead eight minutes later with a one-timer on the back door off of a cross by Bethany Bunker.
Ole Miss added another goal late in the first half, as Sydney Eddy capitalized on the back post.
The Rebels found the back of the net two more times in the second half, with Rafaelle Souza and Eddy both scoring.
Chelsey Williams, Alissa Jones and Jane Latif found some success breaking through the back line, but a strong Rebels' defense held the Trojans off the scoreboard. Chanel Elgin and Louise Cheng provided a spark off the bench in their first action for Troy.
The Trojans are back in action on Friday when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford at 5 p.m.
