Troy Hosts Florida Atlantic for Three-Game Sun Belt Series

TROY, Ala. – Troy wraps up a five-game homestand this weekend with a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against league-leading Florida Atlantic. First pitch from Riddle-Pace Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Trojans (18-23, 6-12 Sun Belt) enter the weekend coming off a 9-1 victory over Alabama A&M Wednesday night. Sophomore Ivan Carter pitched four scoreless innings to pick up the victory in his Troy debut, while four Trojans had multiple hits including a pair of doubles by Tyler Hannah.
Troy belted five doubles against Alabama A&M and have hit a Sun Belt leading 93 two-baggers on the season. Danny Collins and Logan Pierce are tied for second in the league with 14 doubles on the season, while Hannah and Boone Shear are tied for 10th with 10 doubles.
Pierce is locked into a battle with FIU's Mike Martinez for the Sun Belt's batting crown. Troy's junior first baseman has 10 more hits than Martinez on the year and enters the weekend batting .386 compared to Martinez's .383 average. Pierce is also third in on-base percentage (.487), fourth in runs scored (36) and fifth in RBIs (38).
Shear, who has reached base safely in 28 straight games, is second in the Sun Belt with 41 RBIs and is tied with Collins for fourth with eight home runs. Collins is fourth in the league with 39 RBIs and fifth with a .553 slugging percentage.
Tyler Ray (3-4, 4.78) will toe the rubber for the Trojans Friday night after tossing a complete game last week at Western Kentucky. It will be Ray's 56th career start for the Trojans which will establish a new school record.
Joe Hernandez (3-2, 5.34) will make his fourth straight Sun Belt start for the Trojans when he takes the ball on Saturday. Ryan Brady (0-3, 3.62) is slated to start the finale on Sunday.
The Owls (25-15, 13-3) enter the weekend with a three-game lead over Arkansas State at the top of the Sun Belt standings. The series will be the fourth on the road in league play for Florida Atlantic; the Owls are 7-2 away from home in Sun Belt play and 10-7 on the road overall.
Ryan Garton (7-2, 2.77) is schedule to start the opener on the mound for Florida Atlantic opposite Ray. Kevin Alexander (4-0, 1.89) is slated to start Saturday and Austin Gomber (3-2, 3.46) will start the series finale on Sunday.
Mike Albaladejo leads the Owls at the plate batting at a .361 clip with 10 doubles and a .446 on-base percentage. Mark Nelson has hit a team-leading six home runs to go along with a team-high 36 RBIs.
