Trojans Head to Wolfpack Spring Open

TROY, Ala. – With the Sun Belt Conference Championship just a little over a week away, the Troy men's golf team will look to gain some valuable momentum on Saturday as they compete in the Wolfpack Spring Open hosted by North Carolina State University.
A strong field of 17 teams will converge on the par-72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Pool Golf Course for 36 holes of action. No. 35 East Carolina, No. 46 Middle Tennessee State, No. 52 Lamar and No. 64 North Carolina State highlight the field as the four teams ranked in the top-100 by Golfweek.com. East Carolina's Harold Varner enters the tournament ranked No. 85 and North Carolina State's Albin Choi enters ranked No. 100. Middle Tennessee's Hunter Green, who holds the No. 68 spot in the rankings, also enters as the top-ranked golfer in the Sun Belt with a 71.74 scoring average.
Ricky Casko, who finished one stroke away from a playoff in the last event in Jonesboro, Ark., is still searching for his first win of the season after claiming three top-10's thus far. The senior from Cartersville, Ga. holds a third-place standing in the Sun Belt with a 72.42 scoring average, behind Middle Tennessee's Hunter Green and South Alabama's Blake Kelley.
The duo of freshmen in Jake Tucker and Tolver Dozier have both competed in eight events and 24 rounds. Dozier leads in the number of strokes with 1,759, but Tucker is only two behind with 1,761. Dozier also leads in the scoring average category, with a 73.29, only a tenth ahead of Tucker. Both golfers will look to improve upon their season-best 15th place finish in this weekend's tournament as they prepare for the Sun Belt Championship.
Kyle Thommesen and Wil Clowdus make up the remaining members of the five-member team. Thommesen, a sophomore from Auburn, Ala. is currently ranked 28th in the conference with a 74.67 scoring average and will look to improve on his season-best 30th place finish. Clowdus sits 39th with a 75.39 average and is looking to better his best finish of tied for 50th.
Binghamton, Drexel, Francis Marion, George Mason, James Madison, Louisville, Connecticut, Louisiana-Monroe, Loyola (Md.), Army, Navy, Valparaiso and Troy make up the remainder of the field, adding to the already strong teams ranked nationally.
